About the Organization
In 1903, the first Black Cemetery in San Angelo, Pleasant View, was established when the Fairmount Cemetery Board agreed to give two blocks of land to the Pleasant View Cemetery Association.
Presently, the Fairmount Cemetery Board has formed the Pleasant View Committee, a non-profit group, to gather information regarding the final resting place of well-known African American and Hispanic residents of the San Angelo area.
Our committee aims to create a memorial at the Pleasant View burial grounds within Fairmount Cemetery to acknowledge, recognize, and honor individuals interred there. Gathered information about the individuals buried at Pleasant View is to become part of a historical database and provide activities and information which help to engage and educate the public about this section of Fairmount and its history.
