About the Organization
We are the only non-profit performing arts center in our region West Texas and we are committed to enriching our community through promoting arts education, presenting world-class entertainment, and offering economic development opportunities for our area.
We were established in 2012 as the San Angelo Performing Arts Coalition, Inc, with the goal of creating a performing arts center for San Angelo and the surrounding communities. Through the diligent efforts of this community, we were able to renovate the old Coca-Cola factory into the Stephens Performing Arts Center that contains the Brooks & Bates Theatre, a Black Box Theatre, and seven dance studios for Ballet San Angelo.
We also manage the historic, over 90-year-old Murphey Performance Hall at City Auditorium. This breathtaking piece of architecture had fallen into such bad disrepair that it was rendered unusable. However, through the power of our community, funds were raised to restore, modernize, and save this theater and it is now our privilege to host world class musicians, artists, and shows on its stage.
