First Christian Church - God's Storehouse

God's Storehouse is a weekly in-house food pantry that provides groceries at no cost to families in San Angelo. It is our heart to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in San Angelo and beyond.

We average 400+ families.

Each week we supply each family that meets the USDA financial requirements with a grocery bag full of 14-15 items including canned goods, pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, and sometimes produce, when available, along with toilet paper, frozen meat, and bread that we purchase at the San Antonio Food Bank, Concho Valley Food Bank or local grocery stores.

- it's about listening to the many stories of those we serve as they continually open up about their son in the hospital, or the recent death of their mother, or what they just planted in their garden.
- It's about the frequent laughing and joking (we've been told that we're having entirely too much fun doing this job - calling us the "happy pantry").
- It's about recognizing our clients when we see their car from across the parking lot, knowing many of them by name, remembering what kind of food they like and always ask for (who likes that pouch of beef stew, who wants dark bread, who can't eat pork) without having to remind us.

Some clients come only once because of a crisis they're having, others come nearly every week, chronically in need. Some on foot need a ride when it's too hot or cold to walk all the way back home. As in our recent worship benediction, our goal is "to meet them in the margins and find them in the cracks". We trust that generosity, patience, and God-sized dreams can bring remarkable outcomes making exciting things possible in the kingdom of God. Thanks for your support.
