The Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department exists to protect lives and property throughout our community. We are committed to preparing our firefighters through ongoing training, educating the public about fire prevention, and responsibly maintaining the funding needed to operate safely and effectively. This mission, adopted by the DCVFD Board of Directors on January 23, 2007, continues to guide everything we do.
For more than 30 years, DCVFD has proudly served southwest Tom Green County as a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives. Today, our department is made up of 30 volunteer members operating 9 vehicles out of 2 stations, providing coverage across more than 400 square miles of largely rural area.
As our community grows, so does the demand for emergency services. Increasing numbers of homes, businesses, and vehicles bring a higher risk of fires, accidents, and medical emergencies, placing added strain on our current facilities and equipment. Fast, dependable response times are more critical than ever. To meet this need, we are working to complete a new fire station in a strategic location and equip it with a fully outfitted fire engine. This investment will strengthen our ability to respond quickly, improve coverage across our service area, and ensure our firefighters have the tools they need to operate safely and effectively.
DCVFD provides primary fire protection not only for Dove Creek, but also for Knickerbocker, Ponderosa Estates, Ducote Air Park, Pecan Creek, Stonewall Estates, and the West Texas Boys Ranch. Our coverage also extends along Highway 67 South to the Tom Green County line and along Highway 277 South toward Christoval.
Your support helps us continue protecting our neighbors, saving lives, and keeping our growing community safe.
The mission of the Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department is to protect against the loss of life and property, while building community relationships through professionalism, courage, and dedication.
The Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department is currently seeking funding to equip a recently donated truck with a new skid unit, allowing it to be placed into active service. A skid unit is a self-contained firefighting system that includes a water tank, pump, hose, and other essential equipment, designed to be mounted in the bed of a pickup. This setup is especially effective in rural and hard-to-reach areas where larger fire engines may not have quick or easy access.
Skid units are incredibly valuable tools for departments like ours. They allow for rapid response to grass fires, brush fires, and smaller incidents, often arriving on scene faster than traditional apparatus. Their mobility and versatility make them essential for initial attack operations, helping contain fires before they spread and reducing the risk of major property loss. In many cases, a skid unit can mean the difference between a small, manageable incident and a large-scale emergency.
We are requesting $25,000 to help fund the purchase and installation of this skid unit. This investment will allow us to fully utilize the donated vehicle, expand our response capabilities, and better serve our growing coverage area. With your support, we can put this critical piece of equipment into service and continue protecting lives, property, and our community.
